Warts are generally small rough painless textured skin growths that are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the skin. Most warts are harmless, but some in the cerviix / rectum can become cancerous. The virus that causes warts is contagious, and can be spread direct contact with others.

What causes warts?

All warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). There are over 100 different types of HPV, and different strains cause different types of warts.

How do people get warts?

Contrary to popular belief warts are not caused frogs or toads. The most common way to get a wart is through direct skin-to-skin contact, and most commonly penile to vaginal / oral / rectal sex. For condom users it is common for warts to appear in the pubic area.

What are my treatment options?

There are several painless options for treating warts including

  • Cauterization (Recommended) - Painless wart cauterziation is the medical practice of burining the tissue to get rid of the infection of the wart. Healing and recovery is faster, immediate cure with less chance of of recurrence.
  • Freezing - Otherwise know as cryotherapy, is the process of freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. Dr. Nassir applies liquid nitrogen to and around the wart, freezing the wart. As the skin heals the lesions slough off, allowing new skin to appear. The process is done in our clinic by Dr. Nassir, cryotherapy treatments may be repeated as necessary.
  • Prescription Creams - Prescription creams are to be directly applied to the wart by the patient. Prescription wart cream works to boost you immune system's ability to fight genital warts. (May take 6-8 weeks to see results)
  • Surgical Removal - Reserved for rare case of cancerous appearing lesions. Tissue type diagnosis.
